ETNA Volcano (Sicilia)
ETNA VOLCANO 2011
04 December 2010
Not only large mountain are good for climber... After completing the '7 Summits' project, I have still more desire than ever to continue discovering interesting mountains around our planet. But this does not mean I want to just make great targets, but I think the real charm of the passion for mountaineering is to learn to enjoy both the big challenges, as the easiest peaks but always full of charm.

I am glad for scheduling the climb to a very emblematic mountain of our environment such as the Volcano Etna, on the Italian island of Sicily.

We will go there during mid-February with David López, Miquel Noguera, Arcadi Romero and Eric Segui. Our intention is to do it with skis, and enjoy a great descent from this 3,322 meters volcano, from where we will be able to see the Mediterranean sea at our feet.

Etna is one of the world's most active volcanoes, and is almost always in constant eruption. Although sometimes it can be very destructive, it is not considered a particularly dangerous volcano, and thousands of people live around her.  The fertile volcanic soil makes extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards, occupy much of the side slopes of the mountain. Due to its recent volcanic activity, and its population, Mount Etna has been designated as one of 16 volcanoes of the decade for the United Nations.

A new adventure without too much pressure, close to home, and with a special charm to remember from there all the experiences and emotions on Everest nearly a year earlier.
