We already have the 'Mosquito' in the ‘Parc Fermée', with all checked and ready to make tomorrow's start of the Dakar 2011 from the center of Buenos Aires.
I say 'Mosquito' because the truth is that I was amazed to see me for the first time, alongside the other cars in the race during the scruiteneering, and we note that our buggy is really very small compared to any other vehicles ... and imagine if we put it next to a truck/monster participating in the Dakar.
Getting through this stage has not been easy, and we've been working hard for two days to leave all the mechanics in a position to tackle the toughest motor race in the world. I must say I am very pleased to be part of the team "Mc.Rae - Pro Dakar", because they are a very enthusiastic group about their work, highly efficient, and impressively ease of treatment.
It is a curious situation, which I have experienced in many other adventures, to find myself surrounded by many people I just met, and that for a lot of days will be crucial for me and for meeting my challenge. I met Chris Leyds, the team leader, in Dakar 2001, and my mechanic Shack, three months ago in Amsterdam, but I've seen the rest of the team for the first time two days ago here in the Argentina's capital. The group is divided into two very clear parts: A majority of Dutch people (mechanics, truck drivers and team leader), and the Argentina side (three pilots, some people attending, and communication staff that is all the time following them). And in the middle of all, there is a Spaniard alone, enjoying himself, with good relations to everyone, and acting as a translator quite often.
Today I close a busy and passionate year about the vital adventure balance, and I am starting another, participating in the Dakar in which I'll face some different new challenges that motivate me a lot.
Therefore, I wish all those who follow me in one way or another, to have a year rich in experiences. In these dates we are always used to do a bit of balance and to establish certain goals for the next exercise. But it happens sometimes that daily live dominates us, and after a few weeks, we have forgotten that we were the principal and first cause of the purposes that we had done. Even we have many problems, Even there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding us, and however complicated the circumstances of each one of us, the fact is that our future is not yet written, and we all have a blank notebook to write it as we want it . Thus, from Argentina, and about to get into an exciting adventure, I hope you enjoy writing your personal every day history book. Have a happy 2011.
